My first "warm" New York day

Friday afternoon, my frist sunny and "warm" (at least, non-freezing) day in New York. I went to the Public Library (for the third time, this place begins to feel like home to me, I don't get lost anymore, I know where the books are and how to get them). I stayed there for three hours, said goodbye to the man at the cloack room, discussed the weather (for the fifteenth time) and faced 5th Avenue. It was a lovely day, I as planning to go to the Met but didn't want to take the subway. I just walked.
I walked form the Library to Central Park. There it was, all the glam I was promised: Versace, Dolce & Gabanna, Vera Wang, Cartier... I was listening to music, walking down 5th Avenue, feeling I was actually living here (if only for six weeks) for the very first time. The yellow cabs, the people crossing the streets but never paying attention to the traffic lights (New Yorkers don't stroll down the streets, they own the streets), myself immitating them, the first trees of Central Park rising in front of me: New York in its fullest.
I finally got too tired of carrying my laptop arond (didn't I tell you I was carrying my laptop? Probably because I didn't quite care either) and decided to take a bus. I got directions from two man (one in an elegant suit, the other picking up the trash, both chatting amicably) after trying to get them from an old lady pushing a baby stroller around who replied: "I don't speak English".
Finally, there it was. The Met. I wish I could describe it, but I don't think it's possible, especially since I couldn't even visit a tenth of it. I will only mention one thing. The statue of a woman, an Egyptian woman, who came to reign over her whole country and named herself "King of Egypt". Yes, king, not queen. She reinvented herself. This statue was neither female, nor male, it had the grace of a woman and the strenght of a man. She managed to become a whole new person, something that didn't exist before. I couldn't help but thinking: "Well, this Egyptian King woman most certainly belongs in New York."
